Admission Requirements

Students seeking an MA degree in the study of religion at The University of Alabama must first have earned an undergraduate degree in either the academic study of religion or a related field; they must also

  • submit a complete, official transcript
  • submit a current résumé/CV
  • submit a statement of purpose/planned program of study
  • submit a writing sample
  • submit three (3) letters of reference

Only qualified students whose areas of interest intersect with REL faculty expertise will be admitted to the program.

How to Apply

The University of Alabama’s Grad School online application system is open and has no end-point; however, for full consideration of possible funding, applications to begin classes the following Fall semester must be completed each year by no later than December 1.

Applications to begin in the January semester are possible and must be submitted each year by no later than October 15.

Note: funding opportunities for a mid-year start, however, cannot be guaranteed.
