Studying Religion in Culture

Welcome to the blog of the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Alabama. This site -- maintained by the faculty but also involving our students, our alumni, and the graduate teaching assistants who help us in our classes -- discusses the relevance of the study of religion, in particular, and the liberal arts, in general, for understanding both the past and present, by seeing religion as but one element of wider cultural practices.

Lauren is coming back to UA later next week to talk about her current research, funded by an SEC scholars travel grant. Some of you had classes with her but now she’s a tenure-track faculty member at @relatlsu (don’t let them see that pic of her with our mug—wink). And her first book was just published—in the same book series as Prof. @vtouna’s first book! Guess who is soon due on campus for their third series of 2023 workshops with REL faculty at UA…? Thanks for the pic, Lexi. #RELalum #RELmuginthewild Tonight—Talladega Nights is showing in REL 310 in Gordon Palmer 208 (new room fir the course) at 6 pm. All majors & minors in the Dept are welcome to join in. An historic artifact from a welcome back event long ago. #ironic #RELbuttons https://www.instagram.com/p/CxntfFkO0Hm/ Great to see double-alum Kyle Ashley back with the RSSA! It’s been a great Button Event #TodayAtUA. We’re here. Where are you? See you on Woods Quad 2-4 today. It’s family weekend at @univofalabama @ua_as
