Popular Culture and Religion
W | 1:30-3:20
LY 319
Religious imagery, rhetoric, and behaviors are common features of popular culture. In this seminar, we will investigate together the approaches taken by various scholars who study how religion is produced by, interacts with, and is commodified within popular culture. Then all participants will write about and present a particular issue, practice, artist, or cultural artifact that exemplifies for them the persistent appearance or apparent persistence of religion in popular culture.
