Making Islam

This course is a study of how various agents (both Muslim and non-Muslims) construct, debate, and refute ideas about Islam in popular culture and academic sources. We will pay particular attention to how scholars attempt to make sense of diverse account, the assumptions that they make, and the roles that they play in debates over the nature of Islam.
