The other day, Jesse Stommel tweeted about public work not being counted for tenure, and that the qualifications for awarding tenure should be changed.

The conversation of tweets that followed included an elaboration, stating that we need to “think more broadly about the locations of scholarship. Public, open-access should be seen as rigorous.” Continue reading

#LoungeTweets: Live Tweets from Faculty in the REL Lounge

livetweetsfromthelounge

Did you know we have a lounge? And sometimes it has donuts? And we like Twitter? Well, we do. And sometimes we tweet about donuts in the lounge.

We’re debuting a new feature next week: Live Tweets from the Lounge. One of our faculty members will take their work out of the office and into the lounge. While they hang out, they’ll share their deep thoughts with the rest of us using the hashtag #LoungeTweets. It’s a chance for them to show everyone what exactly it is they do.

say-you-do-here

Our first faculty lounge tweeter will be Prof. Altman. He’ll be in the lounge from 2-3pm this coming Wednesday. Follow him at @MichaelJAltman. Tweet him questions, stop by the lounge and say hello, or just glean wisdom from his insights. It’s like digital office hours but without the office and it’s only one hour.

//

So that’s #LoungeTweets on Wednesday Oct. 22 at 2pm. Don’t miss it.

Help Prof. McCutcheon Find a Twitter Handle

Print

As you may have noticed, our department is getting kind of excited about Twitter. So excited, in fact, that now Prof. McCutcheon wants to join Twitter. But there’s one small problem. What should his Twitter handle be?

twitter[1]

We’re asking for help from you, the students and friends of the Department of Religious Studies. Leave your suggestion for Prof. McCutcheon’s handle as a comment on this post, on Facebook, or tweet it to us @StudyReligion. A team of highly trained judges will choose the top 3 submissions and we’ll have a (non-binding) vote.

Important note: Twitter handles can be no more than 15 characters.

The power is yours. Use it wisely.
