Dr. Shaul Magid of Indiana University, Bloomington,
this year’s Aronov Lecturer.

Named after the late Aaron Aronov–the founder of Aronov Realty for whom the Department’s endowed chair in Judaic studies is also named–the annual Aronov Lecture series was established in 2002.  This year’s event will feature Dr. Shaul Magid (Indiana University, Bloomington) presenting his lecture “After Multiculturalism: Postethnicity and the Future of Judaism in America.”

Like other minorities in America, Jews have benefited from multiculturalism. As a collective, they have largely given up on religion as their primary anchor of identity and held fast to ethnic affiliation articulated in many cultural ways. But what if multiculturalism has ended as we have entered a postethnic period in America? How can Judaism and Jewishness survive this postethnic turn? This lecture will discuss the changing contours of American religion and the challenges Jews and Judaism face in the first part of the twenty-first century.
