The Department of Religious Studies is an undergraduate Department offering three B.A. degrees: a undergraduate major in Religious Studies; a minor in Religious Studies; and a minor in Judaic Studies.

Advising

The Department's Undergraduate Advisor is Prof. Steve Jacobs, who schedules advising sessions with all majors prior to each registration period in the Fall and Spring semesters. He also sends out a letter during this time to ensure students are aware of new course developments within the Department. (Past letters are available on the Advising page). Prof. Jacobs is also available to all majors and minors, throughout the semester, to schedule a meeting to check on their degree requirements or to assist them to prepare for their graduation.

Student Privacy

Since 1974, US federal law (known as FERPA) has precluded teachers from discussing a student's performance in class and academic record with anyone but the student him or herself (this right takes effect at the age of 18 or when attending school after high school). Some incoming students at the University of Alabama agree to waive this right to privacy so that parents or guardians have access to their academic record (such as viewing their midterm and final grades). Until a Professor has confirmed that the student has indeed waived this right, they will not discuss a student's performance with anyone but the student.
